What the 4th of July means to me.
To some this holiday is fireworks, watermelon,
fried chicken, family picnics and a day off from work. To me it is so much
more.
When I hear the fireworks that we shoot off
they remind me of the many shots that were fired in the name of liberty so that
this great country could be free.
The multicolored fireworks that I see remind
me that this country is made up of individuals from many different ethic
backgrounds.
When I am at a 4th of July family gathering it
reminds me that all who have gone before us fought so that we would have the
right to gather with our friends and family to worship together as we see fit
and to enjoy the good things in life without fear of retaliation.
And yes, even not having to work on this
holiday makes me thankful that I am able to work in the field of my choosing and
not in a field that someone else chooses for me.
Today our great land is involved in another
war for freedom.
This time we are fighting for the freedom of another country and it's
people, that they may know the freedoms that we as Americans take for
granted. The freedom to worship in their own way and not the way the
government dictates, the freedom to gather with family and loved ones. The
freedom to enjoys the fruits of their labor.
Now some may say I'm old fashion in the way I
think of this holiday and that is ok, they have that right. They have
that right because our forefathers fought and died for our independence so that we might be free to believe as we wish.
God Bless America
